(1:04) PO Amnesty (9/16/09 @ Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute), "Now, as you know, there's been a little controversy 'bout who exactly will be covered under reform and I want to be clear.  If someone's here illegally, they won't be covered under this plan.  That's a commitment I've made.  But, I also want to make this clear.  Even though I do not believe we can extend coverage to those who are here illegally, I also don't simply believe we can simply ignore the fact that our immigration system is broken. That's why I strongly support making sure folks who are here legally have access to affordable, quality health insurance under this plan, just like everybody else.  And, we certainly should not let this debate on healthcare, one that's so essential to Hispanic Americans and to all Americans, get sidetracked by those looking to exploit divisions and kill reform at any cost, that's what they always try to do.  If anything, this debate underscores the necessity of passing comprehensive immigration reform and resolving the issue of 12 million undocumented people living and working in this country once and for all. That's what I've said from the start, that's what I say tonight."  [Obama's solution?  Grant amnesty so no one's illegal anymore.  Not only should workers pay for all Americans to get healthcare, we should pay for those who come here illegally!]
(1:11) PO Change the world (9/17/09 @ U of Maryland), vows "we will change the world with your voice," and leads a cheer.  [I wonder how many of those students understand they'll be paying for all this reform all their lives, if they can find a job.]
• Washington Times (9/18/09) Obama: Legalize illegals to get them health care.
Under the 1996 welfare overhaul, most federal aid programs are restricted to citizens and legal immigrants who have been in the country for at least five years. Democrats have tried this year to chip away at that rule.
// "It is ironic that the president told the American people that illegal immigrants should not be covered by the health care bill, but now just days later he's talking about letting them in the back door," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee. "If the American people do not want to provide government health care for illegal immigrants, why would they support giving them citizenship, the highest honor America can bestow?" Mr. Smith said.
(2) And then there's the famous contretemps about health insurance for illegal immigrants. Obama said they would not be insured. Well, all four committee-passed bills in Congress allow illegal immigrants to take part in the proposed Health Insurance Exchange.
But more importantly, the problem is that laws are not self-enforcing. If they were, we'd have no illegal immigrants because, as I understand it, it's illegal to enter the United States illegally. We have laws against burglary, too. But we also provide for cops and jails on the assumption that most burglars don't voluntarily turn themselves in.
When Republicans proposed requiring proof of citizenship, the Democrats twice voted that down in committee. Indeed, after Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" shout-out, the Senate Finance Committee revisited the language of its bill to prevent illegal immigrants from getting any federal benefits. Why would the Finance Committee fix a nonexistent problem?

ORANGEVALE, Calif. -- A 15-year-old girl who allegedly worships Satan was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of lighting a fire at her Orangevale church.  The blaze occurred at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the corner of Hazel and Cherry avenues.  Christian Pebbles of Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District said the teen made it clear why she started the blaze, which damaged church pews.  "She hates the church and she worships the devil," Pebbles said. "That's the reason why."  Pebbles said the teen was taken into custody on suspicion of felony arson.  "Well, you know, kids sometimes don't always like what their parents want them to do," said Annette Hilt, the suspect's mother. "Everybody knows that."  There were nearly 50 other church members inside when the blaze took place.  "The flames were about 4 feet high inside the chapel," church facilities director Pat Elmer said.  Fire officials said the goal is to make sure that the girl receives counseling, not to necessarily punish her.
