• As we approach Halloween this Saturday, if you're looking for a safe alternative to take your kids to, we've got a bunch of "Harvest Festivals" listed on our community events calendar on the left side of our homepage at kkla.com.

400-408 – •• Two packages containing the explosive PETN and cell phone components originating from the same address in Yemen and bound for two Jewish organizations in Chicago were intercepted in two locations, one in Dubai and the other in England.  An Emirates Airlines flight from Dubai was escorted by two military jets and landed at JFK.  There are no explosives in the United States.  Authorities are looking for between 10-20 other items shipped from Yemen. This activity is consistent with the September 23 DHS alert warning of such attempts by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) to send chemical and biological weapons through the mail, likely using Fed Ex and UPS.  AQAP is the group behind the Cole bombing in 2000 and the unsuccessful attempt to blow up a plane on approach to Detroit in December 2009.  And, of the group's senior figures, American-born Anwar al-Aulaqi, is linked to the Fort Hood shooter.  AQAP has promised more attacks on the United States in their English-language magazine Inspire.

413-423 – Jill Martin-Rische, daughter of the original Bible Answer Man Walter Martin, is Executive Director of Walter Martin Ministries (waltermartin.com, occult.mobi) and a trained apologist in her own right.  She and her late father, along with co-author Kurt Van Gorden, are the authors of The Kingdom of the Occult (also available in Spanish).

• Jill shares that much of what is "common knowledge" about the origins of Halloween is simply false.  For example, there is no written record of its roots in the Celtic pagan festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-en).  Much of the mythology that "Christians took over a pagan festival" is false, and can be traced to James Fraser's The Golden Bough: A Study in Magic and Religion (1890).  Interestingly, the earliest written record of All Saints Day dates back to about November 1, 740AD.  The point being, Halloween is not some ancient pagan holiday that the Christians took over, it is a Christian holiday that the pagans have attempted to take over!  It is the day in church history in which we are to hallow our departed saints, as role models of the Christian life.  Trick-or-treating is actually rooted in the early church celebrating All Saints Day by visiting the poor and bringing food and clothing.  The Jack O'Lantern is rooted in the Irish folktale of Stingey Jack, and the early pumpkin decorations were actually turnips!  Vampire lore is rooted in the Hindu death-cult of Kali, Kali even had fangs.  The origin of our modern Halloween can be traced to the turn of the century and industrialization, with the mass production of candy and costumes.

(:25) Newy Scruggs, Dallas sports anchor, reporting from McCovey cove, "Right over there, there's people smoking weed."  He said it in a good natured way, but he was clearly a little put off by the outdoor scent.  In his next report he added, "And the police aren't doing anything."

(:35) Jerry Brown on CNN in 1992 about his first stint as Governor: 'It's All a Lie… I Didn't Have a Plan for California' –
CNN:  "And you said something a moment ago that I have to follow up on, and I have to draw you out on.  You said, you don't have to lie anymore now that you're not a politician.  What did you lie about when you were Governor?
BROWN: "It's all a lie, I didn't have a plan. Alright, here's what.  You run for office and the assumption is, oh, I know what to do.  You don't.  I didn't have a plan for California.  Clinton doesn't have a plan. Bush doesn't have a plan.  You say you're going to lower taxes, you're going to put people to work, you're gonna improve the schools, you're going to stop crime... crime is up, schools are worse, taxes are higher. I mean, be real." (Breitbart)

(:30) Obama, Monday (10/25) on Univision, "Get Out There & Punish Your Enemies" – "Here's what we're gonna do. We're gonna see how well we do in this election and I think a lot of it is gonna depend on whether we still have some support not only from Democrats, but also Republicans, but they're gonna be paying attention to this election.  And if Latinos sit out the election instead of saying, we're gonna punish our enemies and we're gonna reward our friends who stand with us on issues that are important to us, if they don't see that kind of upsurge in voting in this election, then I think it's gonna be harder and that's why I think it's so important that people focus on voting on November 2."
