400-408Lance Izumi, senior director of education studies at the Pacific Research Institute (pacificresearch.org), on where the candidates are on improving public education – especially vouchers and charter schools.
413-423Steve Barr, was the co-founder of Rock The Vote in 1990 and the Motor Voter Bill in 1994, was involved in the founding of Americorp with President Clinton, and he's been involved with several presidential campaign teams and even been the finance chair of the Democratic Party.  But in 1999, he founded Green Dot Public Schools (greendot.org), which transforms large public schools that are failing into smaller cluster schools with amazing graduation rates.  Last fall the LAUSD approving giving him control of Locke High School in the center of Watts.
428-437Jim Ryun, a world-record holding runner and three time Olympian (1964, 1968 and 1972), and former six-time Republican congressman from Kansas, has been hosting his Jim Ryun Running Camps for the past 30 years (ryunrunning.com) at which high school runners learn a variety of proven running skills along with Biblical principles.  Two of his alumni are in Beijing:  Ryan Hall, who's favored to win the gold in the marathon, and Jen Barringer in the steeplechase.  We talk about the Olympics as a platform for Christian witness.
443-452John Collins, Executive Director of the Harvest Crusades (harvest.org), back in Anaheim August 15th, 16th and 17th, on what a New Believers Bible will mean to those who will be making a faith decision this weekend.  And they're partnering this year with the Fred Jordan Mission and sponsoring a food drive.  Since 1990 more than 3.6 million people have attended a Harvest Crusades event in person, and more than 290,000 have registered their decisions of faith in Jesus Christ.  This Harvest will be very special – pastor Greg's son Christopher died just three weeks ago, on July 24, in a solo car accident.
