512-523 – (:23) Big Texan phone message. Bobby Lee, owner of the Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo (bigtexan.com) where I hold the speed record on the 72-ounce steak dinner at 9 minutes 30 seconds. Now, a challenger named "Furious Pete" has claimed to have broken my record in this You Tube video (youtube.com/watch?v=_9pEDMM3X-Y). There's some controversy, however. In the video, he starts at 0:17 and finishes at 9:40 for a time of 9:23 – good enough for a new record by 7 seconds. But, are we comparing meal to meal? It's hard to see in the video, but did he also finish a baked potato, a 6-piece shrimp cocktail, and roll & butter in less than 9:30, as I did? What do you think? Should he have the new record of 9:23? Here's a website perpetuating the myth of the new record supersizedmeals.com/food/article.php/20080214-furiouspete123_72oz_Steak_7mins.
After talking with Bobby, the restaurant in the video is not even the Big Texan! My record still stands!!
