Two more Iraqis with false Bulgarian passports were detained by Mexican officials in Monterrey -- bringing the total to four this month.  Wisam Gorgies, a 34-year-old man, and Rana Nazar Peyoz, a 26-year-old woman, reportedly flew from Madrid and landed in Monterrey, according to reports in two Mexican newspapers today. Following questioning, the pair admitted they intended to reach the United States.  They were taken to Saltillo in the state of Coahuila, for final determination of their status. Mexican officials said the are investigating "a network that could be made up of Mexicans operating in Greece who are selling false Bulgarian passports for $10,000 to European and Middle Eastern citizens."

They've been dreading a U.S. anti-missile capability since Ronald Reagan first proposed it in the 1980s. Then-Congresswoman (now Sen.) Barbara Boxer called the Strategic Defense Initiative "the president's astrological dream ... a dream of laser weapons powered by nuclear explosions, particle beam weapons, chemical rockets and space based interceptors parked in 'garages' in orbit." Then-Sen. Al Gore called SDI "not feasible."  Journalist Ted Koppel summed up the conventional wisdom among liberals when he declared, "I think that what is being proposed for expenditure on Star Wars [sic] is absolute nonsense. Anything like an SDI program is going to put us in a position where, naturally, the Russians are going to feel threatened." Besides, he continued, reciting the then-prevalent "It's Dangerous and it Won't Work" mantra, "There is no way it is going to work within the next twenty years and it is going to cost not billions, not tens of billions, not hundreds of billions, but trillions of dollars."
558-608Greg Cygan, president of Heritage Oak Private School in Yorba Linda, a nationally-ranked Blue Ribbon School, on the book "Prep" by Curtis Sittenfeld that is on the recommended accelerated reading list of Renaissance learning, that he had to pull because it was inappropriate for young readers.
One of the tamer passages in the book reads: "I wrapped my legs around his waist. He jerked against me so strongly that I thought he might tear through my underwear."
612-623Should the book have been pulled?  Are we being overly moralistic, legalistic, fundamentalistic?

A joint project by the National Education Association (NEA) and the American Psychological Association (APA) is giving parents 16,000 new reasons to question the agenda of national teachers' union leaders. The NEA and APA have partnered to produce a booklet titled, "Just the Facts about Sexual Orientation and Youth," which they plan to distribute to every superintendent in America's 16,000 school districts. Among the so-called "facts" in the 24-page document is the opinion, that homosexuality is "a normal expression of human sexuality." The booklet also warns teachers not to discuss "transformational ministries" that suggest homosexuality is a condition that can be changed. Religious-based views are regarded as harmful, if not dangerous. This is no surprise to those who have followed the leftward drift of the NEA leadership. For years, the organization has used teachers' dues to subsidize its top officials' left-wing fanaticism, which includes everything from promoting homosexuality and abortion in schools to pushing birth control. The APA is no better. In the past few decades, the group has gone from listing homosexuality as a mental disorder to becoming one of its biggest champions in the public square. Now both groups are using their influence to transform public schools into incubators for their radical social agendas. These lessons in political correctness must stop!
