400-408Happy tax day!  The tax code is now 67,200 pages in length.  It takes the average taxpayer 24 hours a year to do his or her taxes, and the average small business spends 52 man-hours a week on taxes!
Should we divert food crops to fuel if it means starvation in the third world?  More biofuel means less corn for food which means higher corn prices and more poor people will starve.
Should we grow more corn if it means deforestation of Southeast Asia and the rain forests?
UN says it takes 232kg (510lbs) of corn to fill a 50-litre (13gal.) tank with ethanol – enough to feed a child for a year.
The US will divert 18% of grain for ethanol in 2008, but this goes to 45% by 2015.
Global food bill has risen 57% in the past 12 months.
The cost of "food on the table" has jumped 74% in poor countries.
Asia's bourgeoisie is switching to an animal-based diet. If they follow the Japanese, protein-intake will rise by nine times. It takes 8.3 grams of corn feed to produce a 1g of beef, or 3.1g for pork.
The only biofuel crop that genuinely pays is sugar cane at $35.  Sugar is carbohydrate, ideal for fuel.  Grains contain proteins made of nitrogen, useless for fuel but vital for people.
In 2007, Congress mandated a 5X increase in the use of biofuels.
Global economic growth is lifting people out of poverty and their getting access to better diets.   There is soaring demand for meat in all developing countries – especially in China and India.  But more grain to animals means less grain to humans, since farmers make more money on meat than grain.
Global food prices have increased 83% in the past 3 years.
20% of US corn is used to brew ethanol.  Farmers are growing more corn and less of other crops like soybeans, causing a global shortage of cooking oil.

Obama said, "You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not.  And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."

Why is Maher allowed to get away with this, and Don Imus lost his job?  Why are 1.3 billion Christians so easily insulted?
(Cut 1)  I'd like to tip off law enforcement to an even larger child-abusing religious cult. Its leader also has a compound, and this guy operates outside the bounds of the law, but he used to be a Nazi and he wears funny hats.  That's right the Pope is coming to America this week, and ladies he's single.  Now I know what your thinking, Bill, you can't be saying that the Catholic Church is no better than this creepy Texas cult – for one thing, altar boys can't get pregnant.  But really, what tripped up the little cult on the prairie is that they only abused hundreds of kids not thousands all over the world. Cults get raided – religions get parades.
(Cut 2)  How does the Catholic Church get away with all their buggery?  Volume, volume, volume.  If you have a few hundred followers and you let some of them molest children, they call you a cult leader.  If you have a billion they call you "Pope."  It's like, if you can't pay your mortgage, you're a deadbeat, but if you can't pay a million mortgages, you're Bear Sterns and we bail you out.
