400-408 – With Mother's Day this past weekend, how did those of you with "challenging family dynamics" do with dealing with your "toxic parents" or "toxic kids"?  How do you deal with your non-Christian parents who disowned you for becoming a Christian?  And the flip side of that…. How do you deal with Christian parents who disowned you for questioning your faith or going through a "doubting time"?  How do you "Honor your mother and father" when they don't want a relationship with you or your kids?  What advice do you have for someone that may go through what you went through?  What did you do right?  What did you do wrong?  What would be your best "do over"?

458-508 – Dennis Rainey, President and CEO of Family Life (familylife.com, 800-FL-TODAY), heard weekdays at 830am with Bob Lepine, is out with his latest book entitled Stepping Up:  A Call to Courageous Manhood (link),  that walks us through the five male life stages of boyhood, adolescence, manhood, mentor, and patriarch.  Dennis is also excited about their Homebuilder movement, built around The Art of Marriage curriculum (link).  Dennis and Barbara have four daughters, two sons, and 18 grandchildren!

Today, we talk about how to "Honor your mother and father" when it's tough.  Dennis says you must move toward honoring your parents – as in writing them a tribute that would express to them honor and esteem.  Perhaps it's even matted and framed, worthy of hanging prominently on the wall.  To "honor," means to heap words of encouragement upon, and you're doing that with the tribute.  It is unimaginable for many people, which is precisely the point.  How do you get to the place where you could do such a thing?  You begin with understanding them as human beings, which moves you to compassion for their brokenness, which finally leads you to forgiveness.  This may include writing out a statement of forgiveness.  To get you started, ask yourself, what would it be like to stand beside their casket?  Ask God to help you by asking Him to reveal little snapshots of positive memories.  Remember, unforgiveness is the poison that we believe will make the other person sick if we just drink enough of it.  God knows better.

Dennis' book on this is The Best Gift You Can Ever Give Your Parents (Amazon).

512-523 – Dennis Rainey, Dennis reads a tribute that Robert Lewis wrote to his alcoholic father.  [This is perhaps the longest segment in FPS history at 20+ minutes!]

(1:15) Real Clear Politics (5/14/2012) Former Obama Car Czar Calls Romney Attack Ad "Unfair."

On "Morning Joe" today, former Obama "car czar" Steve Rattner denounced a new campaign ad that attacks Mitt Romney for business decisions he made during his tenure at Bain Capital.

Specifically, the ad targets Romney and Bain Capital for the private equity firm's decision to acquire GST Steel and the jobs that were lost under their control.

Rattner called the ad "unfair" and defended Romney's decision at Bain Capital. Rattner says Romney's job was to make profits for the firm's investors, not save jobs.

"I think the ad is unfair. Mitt Romney made a mistake ever talking about the fact that he created 100,000 jobs. Bain Capital's responsibility was not to create 100,000 jobs or some other number. It was to create profits for his investors, most of whom were pension funds, endowments and foundations. It did it superbly, acting within the rules and acting very responsibly and was a leading firm," Ratner said on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" on Monday.

"So I do think to pick out an example of somebody who lost their job unfortunately, this is part of capitalism, this is part of life. And I don't think there's anything Bain Capital did that they need to be embarrassed about," he said.
