400-408 – Andrew Marin, president and founder The Marin Foundation (themarinfoundation.org), a nonprofit that seeks to build bridges between the LGBT community and the religious community, and blogs regularly loveisanorientation.com, his latest book and DVD is entitled Love Is An Orientation: Elevating The Conversation With The Gay Community.  If you'd like to contact Andrew directly about maybe a friend or loved one in the gay community, and you've got questions how to handle it, you can email him at andrew@themarinfoundation.org, or call him at (773) 572-5983.

• The four principles of his ministry  are "Commit, Stay, Reconcile, and Grow."  When the gay community is asked what they want from "us," it comes down to two things, "Don't lie to me," and "Don't leave me."  They want to know, "Do you really mean it when you say, 'You can tell me anything' and 'I'll always be here for you'"?  We're commanded to "love our enemies," yet we struggle at loving our gay friends and family.  We can validate without affirming?

• Andrew says almost every gay person he's ever met has prayed, when they realize they have a same-sex attraction, "God make me straight."  Research indicates people self-identify as gay at about 13, but they come out to their parents at about 17 – that's four years of turmoil.  Remember, the enemy's strategy is to convince both sides that in order for the relationship to move forward, it's the other side who must change.  However, just as it is not your responsibility to "save" anyone, it's not your responsibility to "fix" anyone – it's the Holy Spirit's.  Parents should say something like, "It's taken you four years to work up the courage to share this with me, I need some time to process this too.  But, we're going to get through this together.  I love you no matter what."  Remember, "Right from the gate, we can't relate."

• AWR Hawkins (Breitbart, 5/4/2012) STIMULUS MONEY: A SLUSH FUND FOR UNIONS AND DEMOCRATS.

In my post yesterday, I made the point that 80% of the funds that went to Wisconsin from President Obama's 2009 stimulus package were dumped into the coffers of public unions. That means unions received $600 million of the $701 million in funding that was sent under the guise of saving that state from catastrophe. The problem is, the only thing it saved were the Democrat dominated unions. Moreover, those unions, with their pockets lined from Obama, are now using millions of those dollars to try to oust Gov. Scott Walker from office. //

• CNS News (5/1/2012) Obama's Watch: 39 Months, 69 Percent of Afghan War Casualties. Twice the deaths in half the time, as under President Bush – when have you heard the drive-by media report that?

As of today, 5/4/2012, there have been 1959 U.S. soldiers killed in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan, according to icasualties.

1329 of the deaths have occurred under Obama, since his inauguration 3½ years ago in January 2009.

630 of the deaths occurred in the 8 years under Bush.

This means, over twice as many soldiers have died in Afghanistan under Obama in 3½ years, than under Bush in over twice as long – 8 years.

558-608 – BO [DISCLAIMER] Joanna Hyatt, is the Director of Reality Check (realitycheckla.org, 310-820-2560), a part of the Westside Pregnancy Clinic (wpclinic.org), a group that speaks to thousands of teens each year on sexual integrity.  She's here to give us a "reality check."  For teens and young adults, check out yourrealitycheck.org.

From the Website – Reality Check, sponsored by the Westside Pregnancy Clinic (WPC), is a unique sexual and relational health education program created specifically for middle and high school aged adolescents. This informative program is designed to prevent teenage pregnancy through the promotion of sexual integrity and emphasizes the emotional, physical and social benefits of postponing sex. From classrooms to assemblies, the message is presented through personal stories, and dynamic oratory. Our method equips adolescents with medically accurate information and resources they need to build healthy relationships, make educated decisions about their body and to increase their self esteem. These dynamic presentations are made available to schools and community venues throughout Los Angeles County.  Their four talks are:  1) Sex and Health (STDs), 2) Sex and Your Future (abortion/pregnancy), 3) Sex and the Media (porn), and 4) Healthy Dating and Relationships.

• Did you know that HPV is now causing more instances of throat and neck cancer than smoking?  Does your child know that "yes, you can get HIV-AIDS and STD's from oral sex?"  25% of teen girls have an STD.  9 million girls, age 15-25, will get an STD this year.  Did you know condoms are only 50% effective against HPV, chlamydia, syphilis and gonorrhea?  Or that the HPV vaccine only reduces your risk against 4 or the 40 HPV viruses, and none of the STDs.
