• Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere – 9 million people living in a country the size of Maryland with almost twice the population. 80% of the population survives on less than $2.00 per day. There's 70% unemployment, 75% illiteracy. Life expectancy is just 52. 2 out of 3 children are malnourished. 38,000 children die every year from malnutrition – that's 4.33 children who die every hour of every day in Haiti, or 15 kids who die during our 3 1/2 hour show, that's one every 15 minutes.
• Haiti was devastated by four hurricanes less than 24 months ago, that they still have not recovered from, the roads are still washed out, most of the island is still only accessible by boat – and FFTP has access to lots of boats.
