I will also continue to seek a just and lasting peace between Israel, Palestine, and the Arab world. Yesterday, I had a constructive meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Abbas. We have made some progress. Palestinians have strengthened their efforts on security. Israelis have facilitated greater freedom of movement for the Palestinians. As a result of these efforts by both sides, the economy in the West Bank has begun to grow. But more progress is needed. We continue to call on Palestinians to end incitement against Israel, and we continue to emphasize that America does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements.
The time has come to re-launch negotiations - without preconditions - that address the permanent-status issues: security for Israelis and Palestinians; borders, refugees and Jerusalem. The goal is clear: two states living side by side in peace and security - a Jewish State of Israel, with true security for all Israelis; and a viable, independent Palestinian state with contiguous territory that ends the occupation that began in 1967, and realizes the potential of the Palestinian people. As we pursue this goal, we will also pursue peace between Israel and Lebanon, Israel and Syria, and a broader peace between Israel and its many neighbors. In pursuit of that goal, we will develop regional initiatives with multilateral participation, alongside bilateral negotiations.

Actress Mackenzie Phillips claims she had a long-term incestuous relationship with her father, musician John Phillips of the 60's group the Mamas and the Papas.
In "High on Arrival," her new tell-all book which hits stores today, the former "One Day at a Time" star says her first recollection of her father having sex with her was on the night before her wedding to Jeff Sessler, a member of the Rolling Stones entourage.
In an interview with People magazine, Phillips, now 49, pleads with readers "don't hate my father."
"On the eve of my [1979] wedding, my father showed up, determined to stop it," Phillips, who was a teenager and strung out on drugs at the time, writes. "I had tons of pills, and Dad had tons of everything too. Eventually I passed out on Dad's bed.
"My father was not a man with boundaries. He was full of love and he was sick with drugs. I woke up that night from a blackout to find myself having sex with my own father. Had this happened before? I didn't know. All I can say is that it was the first time I was aware of it."
According to Phillips, the relationship eventually became consensual and continued for ten years.
Phillips also told talk-show queen Oprah Winfrey that it was her father who shot her up for the first time with cocaine when she was just ten years old.
"I remember going into my room, I was crouched on the floor. ... He put the needle in my arm and put the plunger in and he missed," she says. "He missed the vein and my whole arm went numb."

1) An estimated 80,000 children are sexually abused each year: 1 in 3 girls (33%) and 1 in 6 boys (17%) before the age of 18.
2) 70% of all reported sexual assaults (including assaults on adults) occur to children ages 17 and under.
3) An estimated 39 million survivors of childhood sexual abuse exist in America today. Fewer than one in ten of these children will report the abuse.
4) 30-40% of victims are abused by a family member, another 50% are abused by someone they know and trust, only 10% are abused by strangers. Overall, 40% are abused by older or larger children whom they know.
5) The median age for reported abuse is 9 years old. 20% of children are sexually abused before the age of 8.
6) Over 30% of victims never disclose the experience to ANYONE.
7) Fabricated sexual abuse reports constitute only 1% to 4% of all reported cases. Of these reports, 75% are falsely reported by adults and 25% are reported by children. Children only fabricate ½% of the time.
8) 50% of women in prison say they were sexually abused as children. 75% of serial rapists say they were sexually abused as children.
9) 70% of child sex offenders molested between 2 and 9 victims. 20% molested between 10 to 40 victims. An average serial child molester accumulates about 400 victims in his lifetime.

Incest has been cited as the most common form of child abuse. Studies conclude that 43 percent (43%) of the children who are abused are abused by family members, 33 percent (33%) are abused by someone they know, and the remaining 24 percent (24%) are sexually abused by strangers (Hayes, 1990). Other research indicates that over 10 million Americans have been victims of incest.
One of the nation's leading researchers on child sexual abuse, David Finkelhor, estimates that 1,000,000 Americans are victims of father-daughter incest, and 16,000 new cases occur annually (Finkelhor, 1983). However, Finkelhor's statistics may be significantly low because they are based primarily on accounts of white, middle-class women and may not adequately represent low-income and minority women (Matsakis, 1991).
Victims of incest are often extremely reluctant to reveal that they are being abused because their abuser is a person in a position of trust and authority for the victim. Often the incest victim does not understand -- or they deny -- that anything is wrong with the behavior they are encountering (Vanderbilt, 1992). Many young incest victims accept and believe the perpetrator's explanation that this is a "learning experience" that happens in every family by an older family member. Incest victims may fear they will be disbelieved, blamed or punished if they report their abuse.

When the President pledges that reform will not add to the deficit, not even a little, he neglects to mention that House Democrats' plan would increase the deficit by $239 billion over 10 years, according to the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office.
What's worse, when the President insists that middle-class families won't see a tax increase – as he did repeatedly during his recent appearance on ABC's This Week – it's as if he failed to read the health care bills altogether. On page 167 of H.R. 3200, the title of section 401 reads: "TAX ON INDIVIDUALS WITHOUT ACCEPTABLE HEALTH CARE COVERAGE." The Associated Press didn't mince words when it began a fact check piece, "Memo to President Obama: it's a tax."
If the President read these bills, he'd also find that his pledge to protect seniors' Medicare benefits rings hollow. According to the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, House Democrats' plan cuts Medicare Advantage programs by more than $172 billion.
// Thus, the status quo remains: House Democrats' health care legislation would allow the U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services to include abortion as a benefit in the government-run health care option.
It was also encouraging when the President assured law-abiding taxpayers that illegal immigrants should not and will not be covered under the Democrats' health care plan. The non-partisan Congressional Research Service has confirmed, however, that there is no mechanism included in the House bill to verify that individuals are U.S. citizens or legal immigrants before they receive government benefits.
• Jacob Sullum (9/23/09) Does Cost of Uncompensated Care Justify Forcing People to Buy Insurance?
At a July press conference, President Obama claimed "the average American family is paying thousands of dollars in hidden costs" because uncompensated health care for the uninsured drives up the price of medical coverage. In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, by contrast, he said uncompensated care costs the average family $900.
According to a 2008 report from the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, both of those estimates are way off. The foundation's analysis indicates that the true annual cost per family is more like $200, with uncompensated care accounting for "less than 1 percent of private health insurance costs."
// The real reason Obama insists upon making the young and healthy buy insurance they don't want is not the relatively minor free-rider problem, but the potentially ruinous adverse selection problem: The most expensive patients are the ones who are most likely to sign up for coverage. To keep the official 10-year price tag of his plan below that magical $1 trillion threshold, he needs to balance sick people who rack up big bills with healthy people who pay for insurance but don't use it. Instead of acknowledging this reality, Obama portrays the healthy uninsured as irresponsible leeches.
