Key Paragraphs –
For decades, Democrats have suffered continuous and increasingly severe losses among white voters. But preparations by Democratic operatives for the 2012 election make it clear for the first time that the party will explicitly abandon the white working class.
All pretense of trying to win a majority of the white working class has been effectively jettisoned in favor of cementing a center-left coalition made up, on the one hand, of voters who have gotten ahead on the basis of educational attainment — professors, artists, designers, editors, human resources managers, lawyers, librarians, social workers, teachers and therapists — and a second, substantial constituency of lower-income voters who are disproportionately African-American and Hispanic.
// In practice, or perhaps out of necessity, the Democratic Party in 2006 and 2008 chose the upscale white-downscale minority approach that proved highly successful twice, but failed miserably in 2010, and appears to have a 50-50 chance in 2012.
The outline of this strategy for 2012 was captured by Times reporters Jackie Calmes and Mark Landler a few months ago in an article tellingly titled, "Obama Charts a New Route to Re-election." Calmes and Landler describe how Obama's re-election campaign plans to deal with the decline in white working class support in Rust Belt states by concentrating on states with high percentages of college educated voters, including Colorado, Virginia and New Hampshire.
// A top priority of the less affluent wing of today's left alliance is the strengthening of the safety net, including health care, food stamps, infant nutrition and unemployment compensation. These voters generally take the brunt of recessions and are most in need of government assistance to survive. According to recent data from the Department of Agriculture, 45.8 million people, nearly 15 percent of the population, depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program to meet their needs for food.
The better-off wing, in contrast, puts at the top of its political agenda a cluster of rights related to self-expression, the environment, demilitarization, and, importantly, freedom from repressive norms — governing both sexual behavior and women's role in society — that are promoted by the conservative movement.
While demographic trends suggest the continued growth of pro-Democratic constituencies and the continued decline of core Republican voters, particularly married white Christians, there is no guarantee that demography is destiny. //

Today we talk about politics and religion, and why so many young Christians don't know how to connect their theology with their political philosophy. Hint – your politics should grow out of your theology. Beware of people who design their theology out of their political commitments.

558-608 – Hormoz Shariat, "the Billy Graham of Iran," is the founder of Iran Alive Ministries (iranaliveministries.org) he founded the Iranian Christian Church up in the Bay Area in 1987 which has now grown to four locations and over 400 members – all converts from Islam. Watch the "God is Love" video on the website to learn how to share Christ with a Muslim, it's in Farsi but there's English subtitles. Hormoz is also the host of ICTV, a Christian call-in show in Farsi, beamed into Iran via satellite, where thousands each week make the decision to follow Jesus Christ. In 1979, he was in the streets of Iran chanting "Death to America" as a good radical Muslim, then he came to USC to get a Ph.D. in computer engineering. He was spiritually empty, with a divorce date set, and he reads the Koran one more time, not getting any direction. Then he read the Gospel of Matthew and was confronted with the person of Jesus. As a result, he came to faith in Christ at Church of the Open Door here in LA. Today, he's happily married with three wonderful children. Iran has a population of 70 million, and 70% or 49 million of the them are under the age of 30.
• Coming up December 1, 2011, his Network 7 will begin satellite broadcasting 24-7 throughout North Africa, Europe and the Middle East, and Hormoz is looking for great programming. If interested, contact Ken in Dallas at (469) 426-9478.

• Fox News (11/29/2011) Agencies Question Need for Iran's Family Protection Bill.
The Iranian government calls it the Family Protection Bill, but activists call it the "Anti-Family Protection Bill."
It would give men the right to take a second wife without the permission of the first, and it would enshrine a man's right to have an unlimited number of temporary marriages, which can last from 10 minutes to 99 years. Those arrangements come from Shari'ah law and have always existed in Iran, but the Family Protection Bill would make them official. //
To many Iranian women, temporary marriage is tantamount to legalized prostitution. But the women's opposition to the bill is not unanimous. Many female Members of Parliament are as conservative as the men, and they support the legislation. //
