400-408 – So, last week after an event at the Reagan Library, I was walking to my Jeep, in my suit and cowboy boots.  I stepped on a little rock, about the size of a single pea, and instantly felt a "pop," like a tiny water-balloon popping, and a little bit of pain.   Over the past week, as I've been hobbling around, the pain has gotten a little bit worse each day and this morning, the swelling was pretty bad, so we went to the doctor.  About 15% of us in the population have what's called a "bipartite sesamoid," meaning, instead of two distinct sesamoid bones, the medial-tibial (big toe) and the lateral-fibular (second toe), we have three or more fragments.  It used to bother me while pitching and running.  So, sure enough, the x-rays show I've popped my medial (tibial) sesamoid into two pieces, and now have to wear a cast for 6-8 weeks.

It reminds me how thankful we need to be for pain, and so often we complain about it.  It's God's way of designing us in such a way that we know when something's not right.

413-423 – Calls – What's your "I should have listened earlier…" story?  Either to you, or someone you know?  What about the regular checkups that we often ignore to our detriment, like mammograms, prostate exams, and even going to the dentist?  How many times have you heard a story of a lady who felt a lump, or a guy who had a rash or a bump, and they didn't go and get it checked, and finally when they do go, they find out they're in an advanced stage of something bad, like cancer?

Hormoz is also the host of ICTV, a Christian call-in show in Farsi, beamed into Iran via satellite, where thousands each week make the decision to follow Jesus Christ.  In 1979, he was in the streets of Iran chanting "Death to America" as a good radical Muslim, then he came to USC to get a Ph.D. in computer engineering.  He was spiritually empty, with a divorce date set, and he reads the Koran one more time, not getting any direction.  Then he read the Gospel of Matthew and was confronted with the person of Jesus.  As a result, he came to faith in Christ at Church of the Open Door here in LA.  Today, he's happily married with three wonderful children. Iran has a population of 70 million, and 70% or 49 million of the them are under the age of 30.

• Gallup (10/19/2011) Americans Blame Gov't More Than Wall Street for Economy: Republicans largely blame government, Democrats split blame between the two.

Americans are more than twice as likely to blame the federal government in Washington (64%) for the economic problems facing the United States as they are the financial institutions on Wall Street (30%).

// Not surprisingly, Americans who consider themselves supporters of the Occupy Wall Street movement (26% of all Americans) are more likely to blame Wall Street than the federal government for the nation's economic problems. Supporters of the Tea Party movement (22% of Americans) are overwhelmingly likely to blame the government. Republicans and independents blame the federal government more; Democrats are split essentially in half, with about as many blaming Wall Street as blame the federal government.
