This coming Friday and Saturday is the Whosoever's "The Only Way to Live and Die" Conference at Calvary Chapel Golden Springs.  It's Friday from 2-9pm and Saturday from 9am-6pm.  If you can't make it watch the webcast at thewhosoevers.com.  I'll be speaking at 2pm on Saturday on apologetics.

400-408 – Drew Marshall, host of The Drew Marshall Show in Canada – Canada's Most Listened to Spiritual Talk Show (drewmarshall.ca) joins us to talk about...well, all kinds of things.  Put it this way, it's really dangerous to get two talk-show hosts together.

413-423 – Drew Marshall,

428-437 – Joel Lampe, Director of The Bible Museum in Goodyear, Arizona, just off I-10 outside of Phoenix (greatsite.com), which, since 1987, has been the world's largest dealer of rare and antique Bibles, ancient Biblical manuscripts, and antiquarian theology books – with treasures of Christian history valued at over $2 million!  Joel is the host of He Chose You on DirectTV, and host of the award-winning DVD How We Got the Bible. His father, the "boss" at The Bible Museum, Craig Lampe, is the narrator of the wonderful DVD entitled The Forbidden Book (which is excellent by the way!)  This year is the the 400th Anniversary of the 1611 King James Bible.

• Today, we've got some stuff to give away:  The Forbidden Book DVD (3), How We Got the Bible DVD (3), a 1611 King James Bible Facsimile (Retail $179), and a 1560 Geneva Bible Facsimile (Retail $179).

• Basic Bible Translations

1) LITERAL translations match to the original languages on a "word for word" basis, e.g., Interlinear, New American Standard Bible, Amplified, English Standard Version, Revised Standard Version, King James Version, New King James Version, New American Bible.

2) DYNAMIC EQUIVALENCE translations match to the original languages on a "thought for thought" basis, e.g., Holman Christian Standard Version, New Revised Standard Version, New Jerusalem Bible, New International Version, New Century Version, New Living Translation, Good News Bible, Revised English Bible, Contemporary English Version (The Promise).

3) A PARAPHRASE is not really a translation, because it is not constrained by the original language at all.  Instead a paraphrase tries to convey merely the larger idea in order to improve readability, e.g., The Living Bible, The Message.  NEVER BASE THEOLOGY OR ANY BIBLICAL ARGUMENT ON A PARAPHRASE.

443-452 – Joel Lampe,

558-608 – [READ] •• Charles Krauthammer (NRO, 2/25/2011) The Rubicon of Wisconsin – Recklessly principled Republicans are tackling our fiscal crisis.  It's taxpayers, including private-sector union members, against the public unions and the Democratic Party they've purchased.

• Michael Franc (NRO, 3/1/201) Organized Labor vs. Public Opinion: Union overreach is fracturing the Obama coalition.  — Michael G. Franc is vice president of government studies at the Heritage Foundation.

My Summary – Contrary to the way liberal media is spinning the story, the facts are this, that a majority of Americans support Gov. Scott Walker against the public unions.  Both Pew and Rasmussen report that Wisconsans support their Governor 48-38%.

Those who support Walker – Men 57-32, voters over 55 54-32%, those making more than $100K 50-38%, those with post-graduate degrees 48-43%, those in the "other" category of race (neither black nor white) 65-30%, and political independents 56-31%.

Those who support the public union:  Women 44-40%, and voters age-18-29 52-36%, basically "women, blacks, the young, and the poor."

Most surprising finding?  Voters in union households are split 46-44% slightly in favor of the public union.  However, those who belong to private-sector unions primarily see themselves as taxpayers and they aren't too happy with public-sector union members.

612-623 – • WSJ (3/1/2011) A Union Education: What Wisconsin reveals about public workers and political power.

My Summary – In 1960, 31.9% of the private workforce and 10.8% of the government workforce belonged to a union.  In 2010, the numbers are reversed, 36.2% of government workers are in a union, while just 6.9% of those who work in the private sector are in a union.

// It's important to understand how revolutionary this change was. For decades as the private union movement rose in power, even left-of-center politicians resisted collective bargaining for public unions. We've previously mentioned FDR and Fiorello La Guardia. But George Meany, the legendary AFL-CIO president during the Cold War, also opposed the right to bargain collectively with the government.

Why? Because unlike in the private economy, a public union has a natural monopoly over government services. An industrial union will fight for a greater share of corporate profits, but it also knows that a business must make profits or it will move or shut down. The union chief for teachers, transit workers or firemen knows that the city is not going to close the schools, buses or firehouses.

This monopoly power, in turn, gives public unions inordinate sway over elected officials. The money they collect from member dues helps to elect politicians who are then supposed to represent the taxpayers during the next round of collective bargaining. In effect union representatives sit on both sides of the bargaining table, with no one sitting in for taxpayers. //

Current AFL-CIO chief Rich Trumka has tried to portray Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker's reforms as an attack on all unions, but they clearly are not. If anything, by reining in public union power, Mr. Walker is trying to protect private workers of all stripes from the tax increases that will eventually have to finance larger government. Regarding public finances, the interests of public union workers and those of private union taxpayers are in direct conflict. Mr. Walker is the better friend of the union manufacturing worker in Oshkosh than is Mr. Trumka.

// Taxpayers need to win the battle of Wisconsin for the sake of self-government.
