Girl disqualified for wearing bracelet.  South Pasadena senior pole vaulter Robin Laird leaped 7'6" in the final event two weeks ago against Monrovia High to win the Rio Hondo League title – or so she and everyone thought.  But Monrovia coach Mike Knowles saw something, a string friendship bracelet on her wrist, notified the official, and she was disqualified, giving Monrovia the victory.  Your thoughts?

528-538 – • CNS News (5/10/2010) Pelosi Says She's Told Catholic Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops They Must Tell Catholics Immigration Reform is a 'Manifestation of Our Living the Gospels'.  How can you refer to "the dignity and worth of every person" with regards to immigration, and be a pro-abortion Catholic?  Here's the Speaker of the House telling the Catholic church to advance her political agenda – what about the Left's "separation of church and state"?  I guess that "separation" is enforced only if it conflicts with your policy agenda, like Christianity's position on homosexual marriage and abortion.  But, hey, there is no "separation" when it comes to her agenda, like amnesty.  I hope every Catholic hears this loud and clear:  "I'm a Catholic, just like you, when it comes to amnesty for illegals.  But on abortion and gay marriage, I'm not just like you."  How convenient for liberals to trot out Christianity when it can advance their social agenda.  We need to call them on it every time.  Furthermore, if she were right, then there shouldn't be any restrictions on immigration at all – there should be no such thing as an illegal immigrant – anyone and everyone is an American citizen if you can just get here.

(1:09) Nancy Pelosi speaks to the Catholic Community Conference at Trinity Washington University on May 6, last Thursday's National Day of Prayer (courtesy of CNS News.com).  "I would hope that there's one thing that we can do working together as we go forward that speaks to what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person -- and that is on the subject of immigration.  Because I think the Church is going to have to play a very major role in how we, in how people are treated.  The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops that come to me and say, 'We want you to pass immigration reform.'  And I say, 'But I want you to speak about it from the pulpit.  I want you to instruct your, whatever the communication is -- the people, some of them, oppose immigration reform are sitting in those pews and you have to tell them that this is a manifestation of our living the gospels.' Our patron saint of San Francisco, St. Francis of Assisi, he said, 'preach the gospel --sometimes use words.'  We need the words to be said because it isn't being picked up just automatically."

(:53) Pelosi #2, "We have to respect that dignity and worth, and recognize that the Church has an important role to play in that. We don't -- as a practical matter, we can't say to people, 12 million of you, 'go back to wherever you came from or go to jail.'  We can't do that.  But the newcomers to America are really, again, important to the constant re-invigoration of America, which is part of who we are and have always been unless we're all Native American -- God Bless them.  But most of the people here came from someplace else."

• Today we talk about some of the differences between men and women.  Women do a "harsh startup", because they're more in touch with their emotions, they have a short fuse and a little "boom."    But guys, "stone wall," they're more distant from their emotions, and they tend to have a long fuse and a big "boom."  The two dynamics feed into a vortex that fuels the pathology of both behaviors.  Women need to "soften the blame" out of the box, and guys need to learn to "engage emotionally" sooner.  Anger is simply "energy to solve a problem."  The Bible says we can be angry yet not sin, and the instruction is to not let the sun go down on our anger.  Meaning, it's supposed to be for a brief amount of time in order to address the specific problem.  But, what happens when you don't know the underlying problem?  When you're angry but you don't know why?  The cause of anger is hurt, fear, frustration, or powerlessness.  We sometimes need help finding those triggers.  Stress is simply "the result of an active life."  Stress, for most of us, is simply being busy.  The key is having a Sabbath, a regular period of rest, in order to un-plug and un-stress.  Stress isn't the killer, distress is.  Being busy doesn't give you the heart attack, not getting your un-stress time is.
