428-437Jeff Schadt, Executive Director of Youth Transition Network (YTN.org) and author of the brand new Going, Going, Gone!: Protecting Teens' Hearts That Are on the Edge, and their transition site for students is liveabove.com.  Their focus is on helping young adults transition from high school to college.

In his research with thousands of Christian teens, he's found out they define "hypocrisy" as "leading an intentionally deceptive life," and they report the majority of their youth groups are filled with "hypocrites."  In fact, if you're sexually active, you actually gain status in youth group because you've been to the Forbidden Island.  The sexual pressure is intense in Christian schools, far more than in secular schools.  The bottom line is that we've got to do a far better job at preparing our kids to launch.  The problem isn't really intellectual, it's social.  The problem isn't about worldview and knowledge as much as it is about culture and obedience.  Jeff's research shows that if kids are introduced into a Christian social group before they arrive on campus, we're not going to lose them.

They had their Succeed Event on February 27th, and we had Nick Hall earlier in that week to talk about it.

628-638 David Rosales introduces us to Emerson Eggerichs, who will be doing the morning services this Sunday at Calvary Chapel of the Chino Valley (calvaryccv.org).  Then on April 23rd and 24th, Emerson and his wife Sarah are coming back to do their Love & Respect Conference, sponsored by Focus on the Family (family.org), based on their book Love & Respect: The Love She Most Desires / The Respect He Desperately Needs.  Register at loveandrespect.com.  The main point is Ephesians 5:25-33,

25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. 29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body,[a] of His flesh and of His bones. 31 "For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh."[b] 32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church. 33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
