400-408 Jeff Pries is one of the three creatives behind the awesome Liquid DVD series (experienceliquid.com) – simply the best Christian media I've ever seen!  Jeff is the Small Groups Pastor and on the Speaking Team at Mariners Church (marinerschurch.org), a father of 4, and the former 1st pick of the New York Yankees out of UCLA in 1984.  His partner, Director John Ward, is the president of Bay Ridge Films, and John wrote, produced, and directed the Liquid series.  The third guy is former baseball player Todd Zeile.  Check out the trailers at experienceliquid.com.  Their new feature film is called "I AM".

• CBS (12/2/09) Local World War II Veteran Fights Homeowner's Association.  Homeowners:  What's your crazy Homeowner's Association story?  Veterans:  Should he fight to keep the flagpole?
90 year-old Colonel Van Barfoot has until Friday to remove the flagpole from his yard.
Since this saga began, it's been played out on the radio from Washington D.C. to Boston, but many believe what is happening to this true American hero is tarnishing the image of Richmond.
Barfoot lives in the Sussex Square community in western Henrico County. He moved there in July, and was ordered to remove the flagpole from his front lawn when he flew the flag on Labor Day, and again on Veterans Day.
The homeowner's association doesn't explicitly forbid flagpoles but they must be "aesthetically appropriate". Short flags are allowed on porches, but Barfoot says that's not the way he was raised to respect the flag.
"First of all, it's not dignified, and it shows you got it in the half mast position... you can walk around here and I'll bet you the American flag is hanging out in the rain, nobody ever checks it", says Barfoot.
Family members say he's the most decorated American combat veteran alive. Barfoot has been awarded more than 20 medals, including the Medal of Honor, The Silver Star, the Legion of Merit, The Bronze Star, and three Purple Hearts.
Wounded in combat three times, Barfoot fought in World War II and in Vietnam.
And he has the support of a lot of people, including Senator Mark Warner. Warner says he's outraged Barfoot's neighborhood association wants him to remove the flagpole from his yard.
Barfoot says he will take it to court.
Meanwhile, the Sussex Square Homeowner's Association issued a statement saying in part, "This is not about the American flag. This is about a flagpole... We are a neighborhood of patriotic Americans, many of whom have served our country in the military as Col. Barfoot has done.."
The homeowner's association also says Barfoot knew from the beginning that he wasn't supposed to have a flagpole without permission.

RICHMOND – Col. Van Barfoot has until Friday at 5 pm to remove his flagpole or face a civil suit. The 90-year-old veteran is shocked and gratified by the outpouring of support from around the country.
His daughter, Margaret Nicholls said, "The response has been unbelievable. What started as a local story has grown into a national outcry to help my Dad."
The neighborhood association has yet to decide whether Colonel Barfoot will be fined $10 per day every day he raises the American Flag but the 5:00 Friday deadline is looming.
"No matter the outcome," said Margaret, "we want something good to come out of this."

544-554 Jeff Schadt, is the Executive Director of Youth Transition Network (YouthTransitionNetwork.org), and their transition site for students is liveabove.com.  Their focus is on helping young adults transition from high school to college.  In his research with thousands of Christian teens, he's found out they define "hypocrisy" as "leading an intentionally deceptive life," and they report the majority of their youth groups are filled with "hypocrites."  In fact, if you're sexually active, you actually gain status in youth group because you've been to the Forbidden Island.  The sexual pressure is intense in Christian schools, far more than in secular schools.  The bottom line is that we've got to do a far better job at preparing our kids to launch.  The problem isn't really intellectual, it's social.  The problem isn't about worldview and knowledge as much as it is about culture and obedience.  Jeff's research shows that if kids are plugged into a Christian social group before they arrive on campus, we're going to lose them.  Hence, the whole purpose of their Succeed Event coming up on February 27, 2010.
