330-338Alex & Brett Harris, at 16 they launched the website dohardthings.com, which has gotten over 36 million hits so far. Over 20,000 young people and their parents have attended their Do Hard Things conference nationwide. Their book is entitled Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations.  Monday-Wednesday of next week my time with Alex & Brett will air on Focus on the Family right here on KKLA (4:30am, 7:30am, 11:30pm, and 10pm).
We had Zac Sunderland on the show July 29, 2009, the youngest person to sail solo around the world, and the first person ever to accomplish this feat before their 18th birthday.  Zac completed his trip, after 13 months and 2 days at sea, on July 16th, 2009 at age 17, when he sailed back in to his port of origin, Marina Del Rey, California. (zacsunderland.com).  Zac is buddies with Alex and Brett Harris of Do Hard Things: A Teenage Rebellion Against Low Expectations fame (therebelution.com).

358-408Steve Barr, was the co-founder of Rock The Vote in 1990 and the Motor Voter Bill in 1994, was involved in the founding of Americorp with President Clinton, and he's been involved with several presidential campaign teams and has even been the finance chair of the Democratic Party.  But in 1999, he founded Green Dot Public Schools (greendot.org), which transforms large public schools that are failing into smaller cluster schools with amazing graduation rates.  Green Dot operates 18 charter schools, and as of Fall 2008, also Alain Leroy Locke High School in Watts.  Five Green Dot schools have had graduating classes to date:  80% of entering ninth graders graduated in four years, and 76% of the graduates were admitted to a four-year university, and almost all the rest have gone on to two-year colleges.  Compare this to the LAUSD graduation rate of 47%.  If you're ready to help bring about change, join the revolution to transform your school by signing up at parentrevolution.org.

428-437 – • Tom Raum (8/12/09) Mountain Of Debt: Social Security crisis looms.
My Summary:  Social Security is a Ponzi scheme that only works as along as there are new investors pumping money into the system to pay off earlier investors.  But with the Boomers retiring and a declining population, there's not enough workers to keep the scam going.
In 2016, benefits paid out will be more than taxes paid in, and by 2037 Social Security will be completely out of money.  In 2008, Medicare started to pay out more than it takes in and will be out of money in 2017.
Social Security, Medicare-Medicaid, defense spending, and interest accounts for 75% of all federal spending, or about $3 trillion.  Our total spending is $4 trillion.  The entitlements alone will soon gobble up the entire budget.
The 2009 federal deficit will be $1.8 trillion (at FY end on Sept. 30), or $4,000 per person (pop. 300 million).
The national debt is now $11.8 trillion, or $40,000 per person.
We know that raising taxes will lead to fewer jobs, more unemployment and less tax revenue.  And when we print money it only fuels inflation.  We're headed for stagflation, higher unemployment and higher inflation – just like under Jimmy Carter.  For Democrats, there's no way around raising taxes and cutting benefits.
Remember, and this is WITHOUT Obamacare.
