• (:17) Obama, 6/15/09 to the American Medical Association, "The public option is not your enemy, it is your friend, I believe.  Let me also address an illegitimate concern that is being put forward by those who are claiming a public option is somehow a Trojan Horse for a single payer system".
• (:32) Obama, 3/24/07 SEIU Health Care Forum, "My commitment is to make sure that we got universal health care for all Americans by the end of my first term as president.  I would hope that we would set up a system that allows those who can go through their employer to access a federal system or a state pool of some sort."  Obama then admits that his plan will eliminate private insurance over time.  "But I don't think we're going to be able to eliminate employer coverage immediately, there's going to be potentially some transition process.  I can envision a decade out, or 15 years out, or 20 years out."
• (:15) Obama in 2003, at an AFL-CIO conference campaigning for the senate, "I happen to be a proponent of single payer universal health care plan, a single payer health care plan, universal health care plan, that's what I would like to see."  [Not in the audio clip, but a transcript of his remarks says he continued with, "But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately.  Because first we've got to take back the White House, and we've got to take back the Senate, and we've got to take back the House."  The audio continues with Democratic Congressman Barney Frank, 7/27/09, "I think if we get a good public option it could lead to single payer, and that's the best way to lead to single payer."
• (:33) Democratic Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky, 4/18/09, "And next to me was a guy from the insurance company who then argued against the public health insurance option saying it wouldn't let private insurance compete, that a public option will put private insurance industry out of business [applause] and lead to single payer [applause continues].  My single payer friends, he was right!  The man was right!"
• (:05) Obama, "Nobody is talking about some government take over of health care."
