• Reuters, Poll shows McCain in 5-point lead over Obama. In the poll taken last Thursday through Saturday, before Saddleback!, there's been a 12 point swing against Obama and in favor of McCain in all demographics except black voters. Obama led McCain by 7 points in July, and now McCain's out front by 5 points. This is a gigantic shift. McCain's up 49-40 on the economy, and the 18-29 youth vote shows a much smaller lead for Obama, now just 52-40, when he had been ahead last month 64-28. Regarding women, the gender gap is gone. In July, Obama was winning 53% of women and 47% of men, and now Obama is winning just 43% of women and 41% of men. Thus, Obama is down 6 points among men but 10 points among women.

458-508 – We're calling Sarah Townsend at Agoura Hills Senior Retreat (ahseniorretreat.com), because she's set up for us the opportunity to wish a surprise Happy Birthday to Madeline Perry, born 8/19/06, who turned 102 yesterday! She is the oldest of 8 siblings, and the only one still with us. She married Ross Perry in 1927, had two children, and moved to Van Nuys from Chicago in 1955. Ross died Thanksgiving Day 1963. She lived on her own until 2005, when she moved to Agoura. Get this, she bought a Rambler in 1969 and drove it for 32 years, until she decided to stop driving at the age of 96! She's got a great story about watching Englebert Humperdink over the years. She has two grandkids, 4 great grandkids, and 2 great-great grandkids!
