400-408 – (3:05) Prop 8 "The Musical" (video here), at Sacramento Community College with an "all-star" cast that includes Jack Black as Jesus, Neil Patrick Harris, and John C. Reilly.  In the musical, Jesus asks Prop 8 supporters about the Bible verses that say shell fish is an abomination, that you can stone your wife, or sell your daughter into slavery, in order to diminish the abomination of homosexuality.  Then Jesus affirms the separation of church and state.  But people have the right to vote for whomever they choose on whatever criteria they choose too.  If Christians, Jews, and Mormons want to vote to perserve family that's not a violation of church and state, that called democracy.
413-423 – How do you answer this criticism?
• 428-437 – How do you answer this criticism?
(Leviticus 11:9-12) Leviticus was all about teaching separation, e.g. fish swim and bugs crawl, so if a bug in the sea has legs and can crawl, it's truly not a fish but a sea bug, or shellfish.   Besides, Romans 14:14 says it's up to personal conscience, and Jesus says in Matt 15:11, "It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man."
In 1400BC, before the Law was given to Israel, the pagan nations had no law against men killing their wives and children.  The OT improved that moral order by requiring men to go before the elders before anyone was stoned.  Rabbinic literature has no record of this ever being done.
(Exodus 21:7-11) If you sell your daughter to a man, and he becomes unhappy with her, he may not sell her off, he must allow her family to redeem her back.  And, if the man buys her for his son, she must be treated as a daughter.  All these are improvements over the then current moral codes of the pagan nations.
443-452 – • Michelle Malkin (12/03/08) Who will make the other Prop. 8 musical?
A bunch of Hollywood libs produced "Prop. 8: The Musical," with the obligatory ridicule of people of faith and Jack Black-as-Jesus. If the opponents of Prop. 8 stuck to cheesy dinner theater protests like this, I'd have no problem. It's the insane mob attacks, sweeping blacklists, and church vandalism that give them a bad name.
There's gotta be someone out there up for making the other Prop. 8 musical — the one with angry activists storming restaurants and Mormon temples, hectoring elderly people over their signs, and hounding donors large and small until they pay off their tormentors in the name of tolerance. Anyone?
458-508 – • King 5 (12/02/08) Anti-religious sign at state Capitol raises eyebrows.
(2:33) The Washington State Capitol in Olympia now has next to the nativity scene a placard that reads, "At this season of the Winter Solstice may reason prevail. There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds."  The metal plaque has been delayed in shipping.  The audio is from Dan Barker of the Freedom from Religion Foundation.  Jim Erskine of the WA State General Administration Office is the one telling the requirements for posting something in their State Capitol. Dennis Bounds and Lori Matsukawa are the news people running the segment.  Elisa Hahn reports.
512-523 – How do you challenge this?  What is the principle their advocating?  Must we now allow the KKK and skinhead groups "equal access" to exercise their "free speech" on Martin Luther King Day.  Should we now allow any "statement" to be displayed next to any "symbol?"  Do you support Washington Governor Christine Gregoire decision to allow this statement?  Would it be better to just revoke the holiday?

528-538 – Bill Maier, a clinical psychologist at Focus on the Family (family.org), and host of Weekend Magazine, on today's report that almost half of college-aged adults have a psychiatric disorder.  He issued this statement today,
"As a society I believe we need to ask the hard question—what is causing such a high incidence of personality disorders and drug and alcohol abuse among our young people?  Although the researchers rightly point to our high-pressure, 'get ahead  at  all costs' culture, we need to acknowledge that family breakdown, dysfunctional parenting, social isolation and spiritual emptiness are likely major contributing factors as well."
The study was released Monday in Archives of General Psychiatry, and was based on 5,092 face-to-face interviews of adults ages 19-25 in 2001 and 2002.
Conducted by Mark Olfson of both Columbia and the New York State Psychiatric Institute.  It was funded by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and the New York Psychiatric Institute.
20% have a personality disorder that interferes with everyday life.
50% have either or both a personality disorder or a substance abuse problem.
Less than 25% get any treatment.
33% suffer from substance abuse (drug and alcohol abuse).  Among these, 20% are problem drinkers, and 7% have drug problems.
12% have anxiety disorders.  Among these, 8% had obsessive compulsive personality disorder (an extreme preoccupation with details, rules, orderliness, and perfectionism), and 2% have OCD (which features repetitive actions such as hand-washing to avoid germs).
8% have phobias.
7% are depressed.
5% are bipolar.

• "The United States should be less concerned that terrorists will become biologists and far more concerned that biologists will become terrorists," the report states.
• "The biological threat is greater than the nuclear; the acquisition of deadly pathogens, and their weaponization and dissemination in aerosol form, would entail fewer technical hurdles than the theft or production of weapons-grade uranium or plutonium and its assembly into an improvised nuclear device," states the report.
• Study chairman Graham said anthrax remains the most likely biological weapon. However, he told the AP that contagious diseases — like the flu strain that killed 40 million at the beginning of the 20th century — are looming threats. That virus has been recreated in scientific labs, and there remains no inoculation to protect against it if is stolen and released.
• Al Qaeda remains the only terrorist group judged to be actively intent on conducting a nuclear attack against the United States, the report notes. It is not yet capable of building such a weapon and has yet to obtain one. But that could change if a nuclear weapons engineer or scientist were recruited to Al Qaeda's cause, the report warns.  The report says the potential nexus of terrorism, nuclear and biological weapons is especially acute in Pakistan.  "Were one to map terrorism and weapons of mass destruction today, all roads would intersect in Pakistan," the report states.

400-408 – Tommy Ice, the Executive Director of the Pre-Trib Research Center (pre-trib.org) on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, founded back in 1994 by Jerry Falwell, Tim LaHaye and Thomas Ice to "research, teach, proclaim, and defend pre-tribulationism."  Ice says the early church was premill until the appearance of Augustine's City of God about 400AD which advanced an amill view that dominated church teaching for 1,200 years.  The Catholic Church is still amill.  Postmill was a spin-off of amill that began around 1700, and premill resurfaced about 1800.
• The information below is summarized from "Charts of Christian Theology and Doctrine" by Wayne House (1992).
Dispensational Premillennialism:  the Rapture (He will come for his church) and the Second Coming (He will come with His church) are distinct events separated by a 7-year Tribulation.  The Church is not spiritual Israel, the nation of Israel itself will fulfill prophecies concerning Israel.  Christ will reign on Earth for a literal 1,000 years.  Global "conditions" will continue to decline.  Proponents:  J. N. Darby, C. I. Scofield, L. S. Chafer, John Walvoord, Charles Feinberg, Charles Ryrie.
Historic Premillennialism:  the Rapture and the Second Coming are the same event.  The Church is spiritual Israel, and will fulfill some of the prophecies concerning Israel.   Believers will be resurrected at the beginning of the Millennium, and unbelievers at the end.  The Church will go through the Tribulation, hence it is posttrib.  The Millennium may not be a literal 1,000 years.  Proponents:  George E. Ladd, Millard Erickson.
Postmillennialism:  The Church is the New Israel.  The Church will one day Christianize the whole world, and this will lead to a 1,000 year period of peace and prosperity called the Millennium.  At the end of the Millennium, Christ will return.  Global "conditions" will continue to improve.  There will be one general resurrection of all people, believers and unbelievers at the Second Coming.  Proponents:, Loraine Boettner, Augustus Hodge, Charles Hodge, W.G.T. Shedd, A. H. Strong, B. B. Warfield, James Snowden, Christian Reconstructionists.
Amillennialism:  The Church is the New Israel.  Israel and the Church are not two distinct programs, but one unified outworking of God's purposes and plans in a "covenant of grace."  There are no prophecies to be fulfilled in the nation of Israel.  There is no future millennial kingdom only the eternal state, God's kingdom has always been and will always be.  The Kingdom is now present in the Church Age, as is Tribulation.  There will be one general resurrection of all people, believers and unbelievers at the Second Coming.  Proponents: Augustine, Louis Berkhof, Abraham Kuyper, Leon Morris, Anthony Hoekema, Gary Demar, Ken Gentry, RC Sproul, most Reformed theologians, and the Roman Catholic Church.
Pretribulation:  "Christ will come for His saints at the Rapture (John 14:1-14; 1 Cor. 15:51-58; 1 Thess. 4:13-18), and then with His saints at the Revelation (Zech. 14; Matt. 24:29-31; Mark 13:24-27; Luke 21:25-27; and Rev. 19)."  His return is imminent (Titus 2:13), with no advance warnings (Acts 20:29-30; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:1-3).  Christians are exempt from divine wrath (1 Thess. 1:10, Rev. 3:10).  There will be a literal Tribulation (Revelation 6-19), and the church will not go through it since it is not mentioned.  The "Restrainer" of 2 Thess. 2:1-12 is the Holy Spirit, and He must remove the Church before the Tribulation begins.  Living, non-glorified believers will enter and then repopulate the millennial kingdom (Zech. 12:10-13, Rom. 11:26).  Proponents:  John F. Walvoord, J. Dwight Pentecost, John and Paul Feinberg, Charles Ryrie, Leon Wood, Hal Lindsey.
Midtribulation:  The Rapture occurs in the middle of the Tribulation prior to the Great Tribulation.  Emphasis is upon the midpoint of 3 1/2 years (42 months, 1,260 days) from Dan. 7, 9:27, 12:7; Rev. 11:23, 12:3, 6, 14).  2 Thess. 2:14 refers to preceding signs of the Rapture.  Rev. 11:15-19 mentions the seventh trumpet, which is identical to the trumpet of 1 Thess. 4:16.  The Olivet Discourse of Matt. 24-25 coincides with the Rapture passage of 1 Thess. 4:15.   Proponents:  Gleason Archer, J. Oliver Buswell, Merrill Tenney.
Posttribulation:  The Rapture will occur after the Tribulation at the Second Coming.  Proponents:  Douglas Moo, Robert Gundry.
413-423 – Tommy Ice, the Executive Director of the Pre-Trib Research Center (pre-trib.org) on the campus of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, founded back in 1994 by Jerry Falwell, Tim LaHaye and Thomas Ice to "research, teach, proclaim, and defend pre-tribulationism."

512-523 – Hugh Ross
Efficient causes replaced final causes, How? replaced Why?  Aristotle noted four types of causation that may be best understood in the context of a saddle being made.  The material cause is the leather, the formal cause is the kind of saddle envisioned by the craftsman, the efficient cause is the craftsman, and the final cause is the fact that he wants to make money by selling saddles.  With all of reality reduced to a determined machine, there was no room for either formal causes or final causes.  Thus, the search for "why" something was done, was replaced with just "how" it was done.  The "why" was considered irrational, totally subjective and arbitrary, only "how" was intellectually acceptable.  Yet, not even an infinite knowledge of "how?" will ever begin to address "why?"

1)  Abolish all local school districts, save 70 (50 states; 20 largest cities). Some states may choose to leave some of the rest as community service organizations, but they would have no direct involvement in the critical task of establishing standards, selecting teachers, and developing curricula.
2) Establish a set of national standards for a core curriculum. I would suggest we start with four subjects: reading, math, science and social studies.
3) Establish a National Skills Day on which every third, sixth, ninth and 12th-grader would be tested against the national standards. Results would be published nationwide for every school in America.
4) Establish national standards for teacher certification and require regular re-evaluations of teacher skills. Increase teacher compensation to permit the best teachers (as measured by advances in student learning) to earn well in excess of $100,000 per year, and allow school leaders to remove underperforming teachers.
5) Extend the school day and the school year to effectively add 20 more days of schooling for all K-12 students.

428-437 – The Real Stories of Thanksgiving
America 's "First" Thanksgiving[s]
Christopher Columbus and the Catholic missionaries who accompanied the Conquistadors surely prayed and offered thanksgiving to God in the New World, but the first official "Thanksgiving Day" was celebrated by the French Protestants in 1564.  Prominent Huguenot leader, Admiral Gaspard de Coligny, envisioned America a refuge for persecuted French Protestants.  He sponsored a group of Huguenots to found Ft. Caroline on Florida 's St. John's River.  The settlement struggled, but reinforcements came just in time to save it.  On June 30, 1564, the group celebrated their first Thanksgiving Festival.  Florida claims the first Thanksgiving. Sadly, the Huguenots were massacred by soldiers who claimed Florida for Spain.  Spanish Catholics established a missionary beachhead that prospered for generations in Florida and throughout the Southwest.  French Catholics extended their reach from Canada and Maine to the Great Lakes, south along the Mississippi to the Gulf Coast back to Florida .
Virginia, too, claims the first Thanksgiving!  In 1607, the first permanent English settlement was established in Jamestown.  As elsewhere, settlers were motivated by profit opportunity and faith.  Rev. Robert Hunt led the Englishmen in a Eucharist of thanksgiving and praise - consecrating the colony to God.  Unlike the Puritans northward, these settlers were rooted in the Anglican Church.
Americans draw their Thanksgiving vision from the Pilgrims and Puritans of Massachusetts.  We owe them the spirit that shaped the beginnings of the American social order: the Mayflower Compact; acknowledgement of God as the basis for civil and religious authority; and the dream that America could model Biblical Christianity in our political order and become a "city upon a hill."  Only half of the Pilgrims survived the first winter of 1620.  Miraculously helped by friendly Indians, a small band persevered through the meager harvest of 1621.  Governor William Bradford proclaimed the month of November to be dedicated to "Thanksgiving unto the Lord."
In 1623, Bradford proclaimed another Thanksgiving - the Thanksgiving most Americans picture:  "In as much as the great Father has given us this year an abundant harvest of Indian corn, wheat, peas, beans, squashes, and garden vegetable, and has made the forests to abound with game and the sea with fish and clams, and inasmuch as he has protected us from the ravages of the savages, has spared us from pestilence and disease, has granted us freedom to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience; now I, your magistrate, do proclaim that all ye Pilgrims, with your wives and ye little ones, do gather at ye meeting house, on ye hill, between the hours of 9 and 12 in the day time, on Thursday, November ye 29th, of the year of our Lord one thousand six hundred and twenty-three, and the third year since ye Pilgrims landed on ye Pilgrim Rock, there to listen to ye pastor and render thanksgiving to ye Almighty God for all His blessings. William Bradford, Ye Governor of Ye Colony."
While Americans adhere to many faiths today, our national religious heritage derives from a broad range of early settlers.  Yet scholars agree that the New England Puritans were the predominant spiritual force in 17th century America (see Dictionary of Christianity in America, Daniel G. Reid, Editor, Intervarsity Press, 1990, American Quotations, Wm. Federer, Amerisearch, Inc., 2001).
• Elizabeth Armstrong, Christian Science Monitor (2002), The First Thanksgiving.
She points out there are only two surviving historical sources to the first Thanksgiving:  (1) colonist Edward Winslow's letter to a friend dated December 1621, mentioning some of the food and activities, and (2) a book written by William Bradford in 1641, that was stolen then lost for almost 200 years, until it resurfaced again in 1854.  Here's a passage from Winslow's Letter,
"Our harvest being gotten in, our Governor sent four men on fowling, that so we might after a more special manner rejoice together, after we had gathered the fruit of our labors; they four in one day killed as much fowl as, with a little help beside, served the Company almost a week, at which time, among other Recreations, we exercised our Arms, many of the Indians coming amongst us, and among the rest their greatest King Massasoit, with some 90 men, whom for three days we entertained and feasted and they went out and killed five Deer, which they brought to the Plantation and bestowed on our Governor, and upon the Captain and others."
What historians do know about Thanksgiving:  (1) The first Thanksgiving was a harvest celebration in 1621 that lasted for three days, (2) likely between Sept. 21 and Nov. 11.  (3) Approximately 90 Wampanoag Indians and 52 colonists participated, the latter mostly women and children.  (4) The Wampanoag, led by Chief Massasoit, contributed at least five deer to the feast.  (5) Cranberry sauce, potatoes - white or sweet - and pies were not on the menu.  (6) The Pilgrims and Wampanoag communicated through Squanto, a member of the Patuxet tribe, who knew English because he had associated with earlier explorers.  (7) Besides meals, the event included recreation and entertainment.  (8) Abraham Lincoln named Thanksgiving an annual holiday in 1863 to be celebrated the last Thursday of November.
A 19th century "Martha Stewart," named Sarah Josepha Hale, is largely responsible for our modern Thanksgiving!   In 1854, as editor of Godey's Lady's Book, Hale filled its pages with recipes and editorials about Thanksgiving, all based upon Winslow's brief passage.  That year, Bradford's history of the Plymouth Plantation had resurfaced.  Hale wrote of – you guessed it – roasted turkey, savory stuffing, and pumpkin pies, none of which appeared at the original celebration – nor did forks.  In 1858, she petitioned president Buchanan to declare Thanksgiving a national holiday, and though he declined, five years later in 1863, Abraham Lincoln consented, and declared the last Thursday of November a national holiday known as Thanksgiving.  Hale wrote, "We have too few holidays. . . . Thanksgiving like the Fourth of July should be considered a national festival and observed by all our people. There is a deep moral influence in these periodical seasons of rejoicing, in which whole communities participate. They bring out . . . the best sympathies in our natures."
443-452 – • Last year, we talked with Kim Wier, founder of Engaging Women Ministries in Texas (engagingwomen.com) and co-author of Redeeming the Season: Simple Ideas for a Memorable and Meaningful Christmas, about how we can bring our families closer tomorrow in a fun and meaningful way!
1) Create a "Table of Thanks" tablecloth, where each year you have all your guests write in the same color Sharpie what they're thankful for that year, and then in successive years, change the color so you can one day have a family history on the color-filled table cloth.
2) And, buy all the kids some inexpensive carpenter aprons so they can decorate their own tablecloth too!
3) Have the young girls gather up forest items to make this year's table decorations.
4) All the guests get their own table place card with a special blessing you've written just for them.
5) Have kids draw what they're thankful for, and then do an art show with their explanations after dinner.
6) For teens, have a karaoke machine for them to sing to and have the adults join in too!
7) Have the kids show you how good they are at their favorite video game.
8) Have everyone have to rap what they're thankful for.
9) Everybody says one thing they're thankful for regarding the person on their left.
10) Conversation starters are put on cards in a big bowl or just laying around on the table, and everyone takes turns.

428-437 – Dr. Mark Hitchcock, pastor of Faith Bible Church (edmondfaithbible.com) in Edmond, Oklahoma, professor at Dallas Theological Seminary, and author of more than 15 books on end times prophecy including his soon to be released The Late Great United States: What Bible Prophecy Reveals about America's Last Days, on where America fits into end times prophecy.
Proponents: Augustine, Louis Berkhof, Abraham Kuyper, Leon Morris, Anthony Hoekema, most Reformed theologians, and the Roman Catholic Church.

558-608 – • Don't Be a Victim of Fraud!
There are some verified reports of a new credit card scam going on right now.  What's new is that the scam artist actually has your credit card number – but they don't have the 3 (Visa/MC/Discover) or 4 (AMEX) digit verification number on the back of the card which they're trying to get from you.  They'll say they're from the Credit Card Fraud office, and even verify your bank card number and mailing address, and even say that charges have been attempted and their just verifying with you to make sure everything is okay.  Then, they'll ask for your verification number.
NEVER  give anyone, either over the phone or online, ANY INFORMATION!
Every credit card company staff member already has full access to your account info, they would NEVER ask you to "confirm" anything.  The ONLY exception would be if YOU were to call them for help and they would need to verify who YOU were.  If they were to call you – they would NEVER ask you for personal information.
IF they do ask for personal information – tell them you will call THEM back and use the number on the back of your credit card – never use any number a caller supplies.  Then immediately, hang up the phone and call your local police department and put in a police report.  Then call your credit card company and ask for the FRAUD or SECURITY department.  Explain to them what happened and ask for your card account to be CLOSED and re-issued with a NEW number.
NEVER respond to an e-mail that looks convincing – thieves can easily COPY any company's web site or e-mail protocols.  Always open a NEW browser window and enter in the address you use to access your accounts on line.  DO NOT USE hyperlinks in e-mails this is how they begin to get your information.
This time of year – and in this current economy – would-be thieves are multiplying like rabbits.
If you don't have a credit monitoring service yet – you might consider getting one for yourself and your family as a Christmas present.
Most AAA members are eligible for FREE credit monitoring through Experian.
Chase offers a monitoring service for all three credit companies for $12 a month for any one – you don't have to be a Chase customer.

• Here are a few more tips.
• Never give anyone your complete social security number– only the last 4 digits.  And, obviously, never write your number down for anyone.  If anyone demands it – make sure they have a darn good reason why they need it and how you are supposed to give it to them.
• Re-print your checks but don't use your full name – use only your initials, e.g. "J.P. Doe."  Thieves will not know how you sign your checks – nor will they know what your first name is.
• Consider using a PO Box or business mailing address instead of your home address on your checks.
• Use your cell phone number in place of your home number.
• Never put your Social or Driver's License numbers on your checks.
• If you go to a store and for some reason their "check or credit card processing system is down" and they want to "IMPRINT" your credit card the old way – PASS ON IT!  You've just given multiple people your credit card number.
• Never use your personal MAILBOX to mail checks.  Always put payment envelopes directly into a USPS mailbox – never use your house mailbox with the flag up.  You're just advertising to hundreds of crooks  "come and get it."
• Reduce the number of bills you pay by check.  Instead, use your banks free bill paying service – or use an automatic bill paying service.  That way, you're protected against fraud and will have legal recourse should your bank or vendor contribute to some form of fraudulent activity through holes in their security.
• Buy and use a shredder to shred everything with any personal information on it – but especially all those credit card solicitations – your credit card statements, etc.  Ever notice how many have cash access checks enclosed?
• Once a thief has a starting point – your full name – address, etc. – you become more attractive as a victim.
• And lastly – never put personal information on public web sites like Facebook, MySpace, etc.  You're only advertising to millions and giving thieves all kinds of personal information – where you live – work – kids – when you'll be home and away – etc.  All of it is just another open invitation for them to "come and get you".
